Johann Georg Beck was born in Bernau, A.Feuchtwangen, Bavaria, Germany. Third child of Five. His parents Johann Simon Beck and his mother Anna Barbara Naser and his siblings Eva Margaretha, Johann Frederick, Anna Barbara, and Johann Christian Beck all immigrated to the United States arriving on 31 May 1852 from Bremen, Germany to New Orleans on the Ship Olbers. His mother Anna Barbara Naser fell ill during the trip. She made it as far as the Steamboat ride up the Mississippi River and half way to Guttenburg, Iowa she died. She was buried on an island in the Mississippi River on 12 June 1852.

Johann Georg Beck Enlisted for the Civil War on 14 Aug 1862. He mustered in the D Company Iowa 27th Infantry.
He was also known as George.
