Jeanne Reynolds Rogers

Of Milford, Delaware, died Thursday, September 28, 2006 at home surrounded by her children. She was 83.

Mrs. Rogers was born on April 5, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late John Wilson and Margaret Ramsay Reynolds.

She graduated as a registered nurse from Wilmington Memorial Hospital in 1945.

Mrs. Rogers's nursing career spanned many years and touched hundreds of lives from school age children to expectant parents and their newborns to patients having surgical procedures and occasionally a private duty assignment. She was the school nurse in Frederica from 1955 to 1966 after which she was employed with the Milford Memorial Hospital on the maternity floor and later as an operating room nurse. Jeanne will also be remembered as a familiar face at the offices of Dr. Park and Dr. Han and Dr. Dyer's office where she worked part time into her 70's. She also found great pleasure teaching child birth classes for 14 years at the hospital.

Her kind and compassionate nature also played a great part in her role as partner to her husband, John, in their family business, Rogers Funeral Home, which was established in Frederica after their marriage in 1945 and later moved to Milford in 1955. They retired from the business, now owned by their son, Perry, in 1983 after 38 years together in service to families in the community.

She will be missed mostly by her family who was her first priority. She dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She supported them all through childhood illnesses, sports events, proms, graduations, weddings and child rearing.

Mrs. Rogers was a member of the Milford Historical Society, the Milford Senior Center, a member and past president of the Milford Century Club and a member of the Milford Walkers, a special group of friends.

She was a 50 year member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford where she actively participated in the choir, the Naomi circle and many other activities within her church family.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John Reynolds Rogers, Jr. in 1988 and a brother, John William Reynolds.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana R. and Robert L. Lawson of Harbeson and Margaret R. and James C. Bailey of Milford; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John R. "JR" Rogers, III and Perry W. and Diane C. Rogers, all of Milford; a sister, Peggy R. Schmoyer of West Grove, PA; six grandchildren, Perry W. Rogers, Jr., Amy R. Allen and her husband, Alex Allen; Todd F. Lawson and his wife, Stacy Lawson; Clifford W. Lawson and his wife, Meg Lawson; Christine M. Bailey and Matthew C. Bailey and three great-grandchildren, Madison Rae Rogers, Eric Alex Allen and Bryce Christopher Allen.
