Solomon Sharp and two of his brothers (John and Levi) are said to have enrolled 18 June 1846 at Smithville, Arkansas in Co. "C" Arkansas Battalion of Infantry and Mounted Rifles. The Unit was planned as replacements to free up regular army units from patrolling the borders with Indian territories so the regulars could be sent to Mexico to fight.
