Capt. Venable is believed to have died and buried on his plantation near Jefferson, GA in the Venable Family Cemetery. The headstones were made in the family quarries at Lithonia, and read: Believed to be the last resting place of Captain John Venable 1740-1811 of the American Revolution.

The cemetery is fenced, and approximately 50 feet by 25 feet, just off a road, about 2 miles south of Jefferson, Jackson Co., GA. He obtained permission from the current owner of the land surrounding the cemetery, Ed Davis before clearing the cemetery. He placed a sign on the gate marking it as the "Venable Family Cemetery." There is a map in The Venable Letter, Vol II, Issue 2, Sep/Oct 1993, p.2.

The headstones over his and his son Nathaniel's graves were placed by Mrs. Thomas Eldridge (Leila Venable Mason) from Atlanta, GA in Dec 1931.
