In 1930, Cuchillo, Sierra County, New Mexico; Gilberto Tafoya was enumerated with his parents Adrian & Josefita Tafoya and siblings: Juan M., Vicente, Ciriaco, Arismen, David, Eduardo, and María R. Tafoya (1930 Census).


In 1940, Winston, Sierra County, New Mexico; Gilbert Tafoya (B: ~1917) was enumerated as a hired hand (1940 Census).


On 16 Oct 1940, Cuchillo, Sierra County, New Mexico; Gilberto García Tafoya (B: 20 Nov 1915, Cuchillo), a resident of Cuchillo, registered for the World War II Draft. He was employed by H. O. K. Ranch Company. He was described as 5' 8", 145 pounds, ruddy complexion, black hair, and brown eyes. Next of kin was recorded as his father Adrian Padilla Tafoya (Draft Card).


Gilberto was the son of Adrian Tafoya and Josefita L. García. In April 1940, Gilberto was inducted into service at Fort Bliss, Texas. He served with Battery F, 200th Coast Artillery Corps in Manila, Philippines. In April 1942, he became a prisoner of war (NM War Service Archives).


On 7 April 1950, Gilberto G. Tafoya (D: 29 Nov 1942; Army Service #38-012-624) was re-interred in the Little Rock National Cemetery from the Philippines (Internment Form).
