Samuel Loucks was born in 1843, in PA. During the Civil War, he served in Dick's Independent Cavalry, a Pennsylvania Militia Regiment, mustered in at the time of the Battle of Gettysburg. Samuel married Susan Fretts in October 1865. They and family moved to Wood County in 1878, settling originally in Perry Township.
