David Romain Hayes, 61, prominant Salt Lake City Architect, died on January 22, 1990 in Salt Lake City.


Born February 6, 1928 in Salt Lake City to Junius John and Genevieve Spilsbury Hayes. Married Gerney Jorgensen on January 17, 1954 in Schenectady, N. Y. Graduated from U of U with BFA Degree in 1951 and received his B of Architecture Degree in 1952. Received the outstanding graduate award at the Civil Engineering School, Wright Patterson AF Base in 1975. He was a retired Lt. Col. in the U. S. Air Force Reserve.


Mr. Hayes was vice president of MHT Architects, Inc. from 1981 until his retirement on December 31, 1989. He was a member of American Institute of Architects, serving as president of the Utah Society in 1974, National Committee of Design from 1973-75, Alta Planning and Zoning Commission from 1973-76, and served on the Governor's Advisory Committee, Modest Income Housing from 1974-75. He was also editor, Utah Architects Magazine from 1966-69 and chairman, AIA Accrediting Review Board for Architectural Technican Program, Utah Technical College in 1975.


Among Mr. Hayes many architectural endeavors are the Convent for St. Joseph's Villa, housing complex, Utah State Training Center, Terminal Unit Two - Delta Air Lines, expansion of Terminal Unit One, Delta Airlines Customer Reservation Center, Eastern Airline Reservation Center, Federal Aviation Administration Building and the parking structure serving terminals, Salt Lake International Airport. He also did extensive work for Clearfield, Freeport Center, Maintenance Training Facility at Hill Field and the Salt Lake County Administrative Center.


Survived by wife, Salt Lake City; sons, Jeffrey, Salt Lake City and Patrick, American Fork; sisters and brothers, Mrs. June Hayes Sumsion, San Jose, CA; Keith Hayes and Robert D. Hayes, both Provo; and Mrs. Beverly Dalley, Ogden; nieces and nephews.


Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, January 26, 1990 at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South.
Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
