The Herald Patriot, Chariton, Iowa Feb 27, 1913 -Joseph R. Morris

Joseph R. Morris died at his home at the corner of lower and Western streets, Abingdon, Ill., Tuesday morning February 11, 1913, after an illness of eight weeks.

He was born in Beaver County, Pa., June 22, 1840. He came west and settled in Lucas County, Iowa, when a young man. He was married September 11, 1861, to Frances A. Curtis, at Chariton, Iowa.

To this union were born four children, Abraham W. and Sterling of Fairmont, N. Dak., Andrew and Mrs. Ellen Scott, of Chariton. Mrs. Morris the mother of these children, died in 1866, at Chariton.

On September 30th, 1868 he was married to Martha Larimer at Chariton. Five children were born to this union. Hugh L., Edward S., Joseph Bertram, Harvey Leroy, Mrs. Mertle May Landis all of Abingdon, Ill. Surviving beside these children are his wife and stepdaughter, Mrs. Mahala S. Marsh.

The deceased was a member of the United Presbyterian church for forty-five years. Funeral services were held at the Salem M. E. church Thursday morning February 13. Conducted by Rev. R. M. Shipman. Interment was made in the Ragtown cemetery.

The Galesburg Evening Mail reports the same thing, except for the following. The services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. S. Welsh, pastor of the Methodist church. The remains were taken last night to Chariton, Iowa for burial.
