Sarah J. Bassett Dies at Osmond
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today (Friday) in the Osmond Ward Chapel for Sarah Jane Harmon Bassett, 73, who died at her home in Osmond Monday, Sept 22 of causes incident to old age after a lingering illness.
She was born July 20, 1885 at Clarkston, Cache County, Utah, to Henry Martin Harmon and Mary Alzina Sperry Harmon. When she was only two months old her family moved to Star Valley when there were only five families residing here. She learned to walk on the dirt floor in her home.
She received her schooling in Afton and worked on a dairy farm until she married Alma Bassett on Sept 2, 1902 om the Logan Court House. They later had the marriage solemnized in the Logan Temple in September 1905.
A wonderful mother to her family, she bore 14 children, 10 of whom are still living; four children and her husband preceded her in death. A staunch member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was active in her later years as a visiting teacher in the Relief Society.
Survivors include six sons; Alma Olvero, Soda Springs, Idaho; Loran Henry, Soda Springs; Orson Ammon, Osmond; Vaughn Harmon Osmond; Kirby Ellison, Hummelstown Pa; and Leslie Sperry Kearns, Utah; four daughters Sylvia Jane Larson, Georgetown, Idaho Mary Emma Capp Terry Wash; Wanda Rose Bowden, Bonanza, Utah; and Lila Joette Wade, Kearns, Utah. She is survived by 47 grandchildren 20 great grandchildren, two brothers Walter and Essie Harmon and two half-sisters, Alverett Davis and Hattie Crapo.
Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery with the Schwab Mortuary in charge.
