Wife of Nelson Berkeley. She was born at Sabine Hall, Richmond County, Va. Her father was Landon Carter.

There is a wonderful story about Elizabeth. When the notorious British officer Banastre Tarlton and his men raided the Virginia countryside in 1781, daring and brave Elizabeth went to Fork Church and took the Communion silver from the alter and placed it under her petticoats- and thus was able to smuggle the silver out from under the nose of the soldiers.
