Donell F. Engelbrecht, 70, of Remsen, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.

Donell F. Engelbrecht was born born Sept. 12, 1935, at Le Mars, the son of Frank and Dora (Sanny) Engelbrecht. Donell was raised in the Remsen area and received his education in both the rural school system and Remsen Public School from which he graduated in 1954. He was then employed at First Trust and Savings Bank in Remsen and later moved to Sioux City, where he worked at Toy National Bank. In the mid 1950s, he moved to California where he was employed at Bank of America in Pasadena. In 1961 he returned to Remsen where he was employed as the office manager of the Remsen Veterinary Clinic until he retired in 2000. He was a faithful employee and loved visiting with the clients and pharmaceutical representatives. He took pride in his merchandising.

He was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was a member of the choir and served on the church council for many years. He was a past member of the Remsen Lions where he served as secretary and enjoyed attending many conventions.

He loved traveling and adventure. He enjoyed many snowmobile trips and upon retirement he traveled to many different parts of the United States and the world. He was eagerly anticipating a trip to the northeastern parts of the U.S. and Canada this summer.

Survivors include several cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Virgl and Russel, both in infancy.
