Obituary: 9 Dec 1937
Funeral services for Carl White, 52, were held at the home on Broadway at 2pm Sunday with the Rev James N. Kelly officiating: "Carlie" as he was generally known died Friday from congestion and hemorrhage of the lungs; he served in the 1st Gas Reg't in France during the WW and it was while in service for his country that he was gassed, generally spoken of today as "arrested TB". He was a member of the American Legion and acted as service officer for the Estill Post for the past two years; in his capacity as service officer, Carlie was of material help to many veterans; aside from giving freely of his time, he was contantly aiding his more unfortunate comrades in numerous ways; he, in company with Mayor Harris Park have attended every national convention of the Am Legion since the war; a native of Estill Co, he was the son of the late Judge James B. White and Cecelia Lockname White.
He is survived by three brothers; Elmer and R.H. White, Powell Co and J.R. White of Irvine. Six sisters; Mrs. Lena Wallace, Mrs. Betty McConkey, Mrs. R.E. Davis, Misses Ida and Margaret White of Irvine and Mrs. Kelly Kash of Washington, D.C. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery; pallbearers were J.F. Smithers, Harris Park, Fred Harris, Bruce Calmes, Ezekiel Brashear and Corbett Edwards.

*** He was a store clerk at the time of his death and had been at this occupation for the past 15 years. Cause of death; gastric hemorrhage from gastric ulcer.
