Also surviving, one daughter, Vicki Halls, Danville; four grandchildren, Scott Jr., Josh, and Luke, all of Danville, and Joann of Fort Dodge, Iowa; three great-grandsons, Matthew, Brett and Scott III; three sisters, Maxine (Joe) Schabowski, Danville, Bette Shute, Jamaica and Peggy (Bill) Billingsly, Danville.
He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Charles, a daughter, Sheri and a brother, Bill Charles.
Charles owned and operated Charles Pest Control for 25 years and was in the pest control business for 40 years. He was a member of the Illinois Pest Control Association. His avocation was his work. He was also a WWII veteran and received a Bronze Star and other medals of honor.
He was a member of the Anchor Blue lodge for 39 years, where he achieved 32nd Degree Mason, the Ansar Shrine and Eastern Illinois Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Gao Grotto for 28 years, Golden Eagle Scottish Rite, Danville Elks Club for 40 years, where he was in the Elks bowling league for 22 years, and Arnholt's coffee club. A favorite pursuit of his was golf. He was a member of the Harrison Park golf clun.
His favorite song was "Sentimental Journey" and the hymn "10,000 Angels" was very special to the Charles family. His joy was his friends and family, but his delight was his grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 2, 1997) at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. The Rev. Art Blevins will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday (Sept. 1). Masonic services will begin at 6 p.m. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
