1886:
  • In the "Personal History and Family Record" (1954), Ole & Anna wrote that Ole Peter Olsen was born on Sept 8, 1886, at home south of Mason City, Custer County, Nebraska. Attending physicians: mid-wife, Mrs J.P. Nielsen. Official Birth Record is on file at: Broken Bow, Custer County, Nebraska. {Note: The Custer County courthouse at Broken Bow burned on January 15, 1910. Not yet known what, if any, records survived.}
  • November 21st: Baptized by Pastor Dahle, Zions Evangelical Lutheran Church in Custer County, South of Mason City, Nebraska. Godfather: J.P. Nielsen, Ole Johnsen; Godmother: Mrs. J.P. Nielsen

1901: April 14th - Confirmed by Pastor Th. Lund, Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church (1874-1964), Hampton, Nebraska [ The old rural Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church has been moved to the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer grounds in Grand Island where it symbolizes the church life of the early pioneers in Hamilton County. {Source: Centennial History of Hamilton County 1867-1967 by Bertha G. 1908: Moved from Hampton, Nebraska to establish a homestead in Montana.
  • Some report that Ole initially planned to homestead west of Froid. Apparently legal claims to the land by an indian caused him to reconsider.
  • Homesteaded on south half of Section 30, Township 29 North Range 57 East of the Montana Meridian (319.51 acres) which is S-SE of McCabe, Montana (Dane Valley community)

1909: First part of March, built house on his homestead located approximately one mile east of his parents and across the road/section line to the north from his brother P. Chris.
  • 15 acres in flax yielded 5 bushels per acre

1910:
  • 30 acres flax, 5 bushels/acre
  • 15 acres wheat, 12 bushels/acre
  • 10 acres oats, 15 bushels/acre
  • September 6th: Made Homestead Entry No 014051 at Glasgow, Montana Land Office (age 27).
  • November 23rd: Married Miss Anna Kristina Andersen by H.P.K. Hansen, Pastor. Witnesses: Peder C. Olsen and Adele A. Anderson

1911: Crop was injured by hail
  • 20 acres flax, 2.5 bushels/acre
  • 50 acres wheat, 3 bushels/acre
  • 15 acres oats, 2 bushels/acre

1912:
  • 16 acres flax, 14 bushels/acre
  • 50 acres wheat, 23 bushels/acre
  • 14 acres oats, ?? bushels/acre

1913:
  • 5 acres flax, not harvested
  • 70 acres wheat, 9 bushels/acre
  • 15 acres oats, 15 bushels/acre

1914:
March 21st:
  • "Final Affidavit Required of Claimant" filed and signed by officially designated officer in Culbertson, Montana (part of "proving up" on the homestead)
  • Witness: Ejnar Bentsen
  • Witness: Peder C Olsen
July 14th:
  • Land Patent 422647 signed by government officials announcing his homestead claim "has been established and duly consummated". In other words, Ole now owns the land!

1917: June 5th - In his "Registration Card" Ole Peter Olsen stated he was from McCabe, Mont, born September 8, 1886, a natural born citizen, occupation: Farmer, farming for himself, wife and 2 children, married, caucasian, no prior military service, tall, medium, gray eyes and dark hair.
