Final rites were held at Dunning Friday for James Richard "Dick" Carson, who died from a bullet wound Monday of last week [editor: January 20, 1958]. Burial was in the Ash Hollow cemetery at Lewellen.

He was born at Lewellen, May 12, 1911, growing to young manhood; in that community. On June 27, 1934, he was united in marriage to Miss Ethel Snyder of Silver Creek, four children being born to the union.

In May of 1942 the family moved to Elsmere, having purchased a ranch southeast of that village. It was there where Mr. Carson met his death, a 25-35 calibre rifle discharging when he removed it from a pick-up.

The bullet struck him at close range and death was almost instantaneous. A doctor was brought by plane from Ainsworth but Mr. Carson had already died.

At time of death his age was 46 years, 8 months and 8 days. He is survived by his wife; four children, Mrs. Bob Anderson, James Richard, Juanna Beth and Danny Dean; his mother, Mrs. James Carson of Oshkosh; two brothers, Dennis Carson of Tilden and Tom Carson of Lewellen; five sisters, Josephine Orr of Los Angeles, Mae Roberson of Oshkosh, Ruth Durfee of Culver City, California, Mrs. James Christine of Shelbyville, Missouri and Mrs. Tex Randall of Tucson, Arizona; several nieces and nephews; and any other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James E. Carson, who died in September of 1948 and by his brother John Dean, who died in October of 1922. Following services at the Dunning Congregational church, the remain were brought to Ash Hollow, where graveside rites were held.
