Daughter of James and Thankful (Tower) Wheeler. Sarah Wheeler Gunn, called Sally, was born 11 February 1792. She married Comfort Gunn in October 1808 in Camillus, Onondaga Co., NY. They were the parents of the following children:

Bersheba "Basha" M. Gunn 1812 – 1890
Vernon D. Gunn 1814 – 1862
Hezekiah H. Gunn 1816 – 1901
Harriet Gunn 1820 – 1851
Samuel B. Gunn 1820 –
Olive Gunn 1822 –
Burrell G. Gunn 1824 – 1864
Serepta E. Gunn 1828 –
Almeda P. Gunn 1830 – 1889

Obituary from: Ashtabula Sentinel (Ohio), April 8, 1875,

"Sally" Gunn was born in Rutland County, Vermont in 1792. She moved with her parents to the state of New York in 1803. She was married to Comfort Gunn in 1808. They moved to Ashtabula County, Ohio in 1818 where they endured the hardships of a frontier life. While in Ohio, she experienced religion and united with the M. E. Church, with which she has been ever since connected. They moved to Michigan in 1842, settling in Lenawee County, from whence they moved to Ingham County in 1847. Her husband died in 1860, they having lived together for 52 years. Since her husband's death she has lived with her son-in-law, J.M. Hudson." (daughter Almeda)

Unfortunately, the informant for the obituary gave the wrong date and place for Sally's birth. Her birth, her parents' marriage, & her grandparents' marriage are all recorded in Rutland, Worcester Co., Mass.

Three of her sons are also buried in Maple Grove Cemetery--Vernon D. Gunn, Noble W. Gunn, and Burrell G. Gunn. Burrell died 24 Aug 1864 in the Civil War in Alexandria, Virginia. He was first buried in the National Cemetery in Philadelphia and was later reburied in Maple Grove. (information provided by find a grave contributor James Gunn)

Wife of Comfort Gunn Birth year and place of birth came from census record for 1850. Her headstone is next to Comforts along with Vernon D. Gunn and another headstone (can't make our first name) Gunn.
