Otto C. Rode was born June 11, 1890 at Doss, Texas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. D. Rode. After finishing public schools at Doss he entered Blum Memorial College at Brenham where he finished in 1914. He graduated from S.W.T. College at San Marcos where he received his B.A. degree in 1916. Latter he entered the University of Texas where he received his M.A. degree and did graduate work on his Ph.D. degree.

During World War I he served in France with the 90th Division and was with the Army of Occupation in Germany.

Upon his return to civilian life he entered the teaching profession. He taught in the high schools in San Antonio and Caldwell before he came to New Braunfels. In Caldwell he served both as Principal of the High School and Athletic Coach. He entered the New Braunfels schools in 1930 where he was Coach from 1930 to 1936. On account of impaired health he retired from the teaching profession in 1945.

Early in life he united with the Methodist Church in Hilda, Texas. Upon coming to New Braunfels he transferred his membership to the Methodist Church in this city where he was active in the work of the church until he became ill. He was also active in the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.

On August 15, 1934 he was married to Miss Mayme Buske in New Braunfels where he enjoyed a wide circle of friends. About two years ago his health began to fail. Later he suffered a severe stroke—medical care and attention gave some hope for recovery. However of late his condition became increasingly alarming. Last Wednesday evening, March 26th, at 5 p.m. he was called to his reward.

He is survived by his wife: Mayme Rode and one daughter, Alice Mae; four brothers and four sisters. One sister preceded him in death.
The funeral was held Saturday, March 29, with Rev. C.C. McKinney and Rev. J.G. Palmer officiating. Pallbearers were Rud. Koch, Grant Smith, Clarence Rheinlaender, Hy. Socchting, Arlon Elbel and Dan Gotthardt.
