Son of John Wesley Carter and Mary Lou Baker Carter-Cunningham. Husband of Mary Edith Moore Carter.

Thurman Carter, 80, of Sparta, Tennessee passed away November 5, 2008 at Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville, Tennessee.

Mr. Carter was born July 16, 1928 to John Wesley Carter and Mary Lou Baker Carter Cunningham. He had worked at Roger Group Inc and was a volunteer fireman at North End Voluteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Everett Carter; two brothers, Orby Carter and Millard Ray Carter; two sisters, Reba Carter and Ima Dimple Elrod; eight half-brothers, Marion Tulley Carter, Toy Mansfield Carter, John Wesley Carter, Harvey Jackson Carter, Samuel Franklin Carter, Rindy E. Carter, William George Cunningham, and Dewey Cunningham; two half-sisters, Charity Carolyn Dobbs and Charlotte Rebecca Carter.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Edith Moore Carter; one son, John Carter; one sister in law, Willease Deering Carter; nephews and nieces; cousins and friends.

Service was held at Macedonia Baptist Church on November 7, 2008 at 1:00 pm with burial at Carter Cemetery in Sparta, Tennessee. Bro. Tom McCulley and Jeffrey Howard will officate. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., November 6, at the funeral home.
