Death of Mrs. J. H. Gunby.
Another of the early pioneers of Wilson-co. has passed away. Mrs. J. H. Gunby, of Buffalo, died Saturday, the 2d inst., of pneumonia, in her forty-third year. Mrs. Gunby came to wilson-co. with her father, Peter Welch, in 1859, when she was 15 years old. Mr. Welch located in Clifton-tp., taking a claim on Buffalo creek. In 1862 the deceased was married to Mr. Gunby, also one of the early settlers, who is a well known citizen of Buffalo. The couple had passed through all the privations and disadvantages incident to life on the frontier, but ever maintained a cheerful and enthusiastic spirit, proving to all their neighbors true and helpful friends. They had witnessed the great transformation in the country, realizing at last that their remaining days would be fraught with more of ease and comfort. Now the faithful and loving wife is called away, when life doubtless seemed more worth the living. In the irreparable loss and great bereavement Mr. Gunby feels, he has the sincere and universal sympathy of his neighbors and many friends throughout the county.
