Rufus was a son of Mary Carver and Gamaliel Bates. He had 14 siblings: Lydia, Gamaliel, Mary P., Calvin, Hannah, James, John Blaney, Rebecca (who died at 1 yr., 2 mo. & 7 days), Deborah (died at 6 months, Deborah, Reuben, Betsey, Ezekiel and Abigail (who died at 1 month, 19 days). One "infant died of worms at 7 months", another of "the canter". Am not sure which child died from those maladies.
Rufus married Huldah Keith in Bridgewater, MA on November 27, 1821. They had 3 children: William Carver, George M. and Reuben.
