April 17, 1924 John D Summers, 87 died Thursday morning on Greenville Road, with a stroke which happened three weeks before. He was a lifelong resident of Winchester area. He was a gardner and was a charter member of the Summers Masonic Lodge. The funeral is Saturday morning at the Friends Church with Rev. Frank Cornell officiating. Burial in Fountain Park Cemetery. The widow survives.

Obituary: April 24, 1924 John D. Summers born July 15, 1836 near Winchester, at the Summers homestead. Died April 10, 1924 aged 87 years. he had a stroke two weeks before. He was of a pioneer family of eight children of Charles Summers and Susannah Ludy Summers. Four sisters and one brother preceded him. He leaves a wife to whom he had been married over fifty years; one brother, David Summers, and one sister Mrs. Elzina Troxell and many nieces and nephews.

On February 8, 1872, he married Margaret Ellen Roosa and they were married fifty two years, but had no children. They raised Charles D. Wysong, from 17 months of age and also Alice Reece, when she was ten years old. He was a member ofSociety of Friends. Some twenty odd years ago, he gave a large donation toward the founding of and equipping the Summers Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons....This is a very long article....
