SELBYVILLE -- Hugh F. "Skip" Higgins, 85, of Selbyville, and formerly of Washington, passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2005.


Born in Washington, he was the son of the late Major Hugh and Mildred Lithgow Higgins. Skip was also preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Prindle, Margaret Allwine and Eleanor Galvin.


During World War II, Mr. Higgins served as a technical sergeant with the 8th Air Force Photo Reconnaissance Unit based in Medmenham, England, from 1942 to 1946. He retired from Sears, Roebuck Co. in Washington after 29 years and moved to Selbyville in 1979. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ocean City, a charter member of the Fenwick Island Lions Club and delivered Meals on Wheels for 16 years. He had been a longtime member of the National Capital Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America.


Skip and Cecilia "Ce" recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a party for friends and family. Skip was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed.


He is survived by his beloved wife, Cecilia; two sons, Lee Higgins (Diana) of Kent, Ohio, and Timothy Higgins (Wendy) of Rock Cave, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Michael Higgins (Anne) of Chexbres, Switzerland, and Julie Higgins and Christopher Higgins, both of Columbus, Ohio; and three great-granddaughters, Sarah, Kate and Virginia Higgins, all of Chexbres. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of dear friends.


A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 100th Street and Coastal Highway in Ocean City. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home, 19 S. Main St. in Selbyville. Interment will be in Bishopville Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Fenwick Island Lions Club, Scholarship Fund, c/o Robert S. Pretty, 22 Walnut Lane, Selbyville, Del. 19975.
