Henry enlisted in the Civil War at the age of 17-years at Athens, Ohio, Sept. 24, 1861. He served faithfully for his country and was honorably discharged. He was a member of the G. A. R. and of Co. B. 75th Regiment, Ohio Infantry.

At the battle of Gettysburg, July 2, 1863, he was wounded and was a constant sufferer from this wound and others caused by exposure in the war until the time of his death, which at the last was peaceful.
