Graveside service: 1 p.m. Saturday in Oakland Cemetery in Fordyce, Ark. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home.
Bernadette was born April 15, 1926, in Stirling, Alberta, Canada, to John and Althea Darr McLean. She graduated from Leighbridge Collegiate Institute and later graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. During her lifetime, she taught at public schools and special schools in Yorktown, Waco, Texas City and, for last 16 years, Fort Worth. Lastly, she taught at Trimble Tech, retiring in 1987.
Bernadette was a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She was also a former member of Broadway Baptist Church and an active member of Oakhill Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Reuben P. Allen Jr.
Survivors: Sons, Reuben P. Allen III and his wife, Donna, and Bruce Edward Allen and his wife, Andrea; grandchildren, Chelsey, Dalton, Logan and Lane Allen; great-grandchild, Charles Allen Harwood; sisters, Althea Turnbull and her husband, Gerald, and Phyliss Cockrell and her husband, Stanley; and nephews and nieces.
