Rev. Paul J. Scarbro, 87, of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, Nov. 7, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House, after a long illness.
Born Feb. 22, 1921, at Rock Creek, he was the son of the late Florence Webb and Malone Scarbro.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a minister and pastor for over 50 years. Among the churches he pastored were Packsville Baptist, Shumate Branch, Coal City Free Will Baptist, Price Hill Free Will Baptist, and North Sand Branch Baptist.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Markem and Virginia "Jenny" Holstein.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lillie June Scarbro; a brother, James Alvin Scarbro of Bloomingdale; a sister, Opal Harless of Morgantown; two sons, James C. "Sonny" Scarbro and wife Kathy and Ricky Paul Scarbro and wife Carrie; five grandchildren, Jamie Paul Scarbro and wife Tina, Ricky Paul Scarbro Jr., Jefferey Louis Scarbro, Stacy Lynn Duncan and husband Sammy, and Jennifer Dawn Wilson and husband Kelvin; and four great-grandchildren, Trevor James Scarbro, Taegan Dawn Wilson, Kendall Faith Duncan, and Kelvin Warren Wilson III.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, with Rev. Orville Setliffe and Rev. Ronald Adkins officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may gather with the family from 12 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
