Gordon Jerome Mann, 66, of Elbow Lake, died from cancer on Dec. 22, 2006, at the ELEAH Medical Center in Elbow Lake, with his family at his side.

He was born at home on May 9, 1940, to Lloyd and Nora (Bollman) Mann on their farm near Barrett. He was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church in Elbow Lake. He started school in Barrett and graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1958.

On Dec. 31, 1960, Gordon was united in marriage to Cleo Piekarski of Fergus Falls during a ceremony in Elbow Lake. The couple made their first home in Elbow Lake. A year and a half later they moved to the family farm east of Elbow Lake, where Gordon farmed the rest of his life.

Gordon was active in the community. He was a member of the Elbow Lake creamery until it closed. He served on the Sanford Township board for over 20 years, with several years as an officer and as an officer on the Township Association Board for several years. He became an Elder of the Presbyterian Church and helped with various projects through the years.

He was active in 4-H and was proud of his Brown Swiss cows and showing them at the state fair. Throughout the years Gordon had dairy cattle and he usually had Brown Swiss in the herd. As their children joined the SanPom 4-H club, he encouraged them as well as other members in their projects.

Gordon liked making things and enjoyed working at Valley Woods in Wendell for eight years.

He collected tractors and farm equipment and restored two of his older tractors. He drove them in the Old Settler's Day parade in Barrett and exhibited them at the Dalton Threshermen's Reunion.

Gordon is survived by his wife Cleo of Elbow Lake; children: Theresa (John) Clark of Barrett, Carol (Jim) Rossow of Clear Lake, S.D., and Jerry (Becky) of Elbow Lake; grandchildren: Megan (Dieter Strobel), Kari and Monica Clark, Tokina (Brad) McHarry, Tashara, Tabitha, Trevor, Tatham (Amanda Walker), Timmy, Taylor, T Jay, Tammy, and Twyla Rossow, Tyler, Heidi, and Laura Mann; two great-grandchildren, Samantha McHarry and Brooklyn Strobel; two brothers, Myron (Jean) of Moorhead, and Roger (Peg) of St. Louis Park; one sister, Linda Westrom of Coon Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Nora Mann; and one sister, Marlyse.

Funeral services were held today at First Presbyterian Church in Elbow Lake, with the Rev. William O. Gilbert III officiating. Burial was at the Lawrence Cemetery, rural Wendell. Arrangements were with the Erickson-Smith Funeral Home in Elbow Lake.
