My Great Grand-Mother, my Mom's Grandma on her fathers side. I have sought her where-abouts since beginning my genealogy on the computer in 1999 and she has eluded me. Today I finally found her, where and when she passed, where she is buried, and who she was remarried to after Great Grand-Father. I want to thank the people at Find-A-Grave Forums for their help and support as well as William who's site she was listed on at Ancestry.com. I could not have found her without your effort.

Mary Frances Melchi was born 30th March, 1868 in Van Wert, Ohio to John B. Melchi and Phoebe C. DeCamp.

She is 2 years old in the 1870 census of Ohio, Van Wert city of Van Wert Co. with her parents John 29, and P.C. 27 and a brother who may have been a twin, name hard to read but possibly Francis M. the exact same age.

In 1880 she is living in the home of her Grandparents, Abraham B and Sallie (or Sarah) Melchi. Her mother Phebe 37, is with her as are younger brothers Charles 9, and John 6. This is in Ohio, Van Wert Co., and Ridge Township. Her fathers where-abouts are uncertain.

On 21st June, 1885 she was married to Hannibal Fremont Bushong in Van Wert, Ohio.

The Lord issued them five children; 2 daughters; Bessie and Nellie M, and three sons; Clarence, John Lindsay (my Grandpa), and Charles Elmer. These are all listed in the 1900 Census of Ohio, Putnam Co, in Riley Township where I know Grandpa John to have been born.

In 1910 the family was in Allen County, Ohio, in Lima city. Only the boys were living at home. All were 19 years or younger.

Sometime after 1910 I believe Hannibal and Mary Frances were divorced, but since that wasn't "talked about" in those days, he was listed as widowed in the 1920 census living with his son John, who was still single at the time.

By 1930 John was married and Hannibal was living with his youngest son Charles E and his young wife Esther in Detroit, Michigan. He was 67 and still being listed as widowed. Mary Frances had disappeared on me after 1910.

Hannibal never remarried and eventually passed away while living in Gladwin, Michigan at the County Farm. Tho his grave hasn't been found, I believe it's on a plot purchased in Ridge Cemetery by his son John L. Bushong. There were no sexton records a few years back when I checked.

On 3 April, 1913 in Allen County Ohio Mary married Harry McClymonds, age 40, born in Butler, Pennsylvania. She was 45 at the time of this marriage. She sought divorce from Harry in Feb. 1917, short 4 years of being married. They had no children.

Mary Frances remarried to a German man named August C. Boegert, sometime after Feb 1917. A note by "William" on ancestry.com says it was after 1932, this has not been proven.

Finally I found Mary's death certificate which states she died on 28th March, just two days before her birthday would have made her 76 years old, in 1944. She was in Toledo, Lucas Co., Ohio for the last days of her life. She was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery of Defiance, Defiance Co., Ohio by her husband who later passed in 1945.

It is my hope and prayer that he is buried next to her, so she is not alone. I'd like to thank him for being there to love and care for her tho I never knew him, or of him.

My one photo of Mary Frances was taken about 1911 with her youngest son Charles standing beside her. I will post it so others may see how much my Mom took after her.

I know nothing of Grandma Mary's life except what the facts tell me, but I pray it was a happy life and that her passing was gentle. I welcome any descendants of Mary's other children to contact me as I would love to corresponde with cousins.

My thanks also go out to the people who contributed the cemetery photo of Riverside. I am happy to know she rests in such a pretty place. Now may God send me another angel to volunteer to find and photograph her grave, tho I know someday I will get down that way again and I will find her for myself.

Rest in Peace my elusive Grandma, you are found at last, I love you.

BIG BIG THANKS to GEOFLINT13 for the gravestone shots, you are the photo-angel I prayed for!
