Evor A. Powell, well known South Side resident, died yesterday afternoon of complications resulting from injuries suffered a month ago in an odd accident at his home, 620 Kennedy Avenue.
Mr. Powell, who was 82 years old, was dressing and accidently got both his legs into the same trowser leg. He tripped and fell to the floor, fracturing his right leg.
Found on the floor a few minuted later by his son, W. C. Powell, the aged man was removed to Memorial Hospital, where he since had been a patient. Complications developed resulting in his death at 2:55 p.m. yesterday.
Mr. Powell was a retired employee of the Pennsylvania Electric Company, having served with that firm for more than 40 years.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Powell home by Rev. D. E. Sheets, pastor of the First Christian Church. Burial will take place in Grandview Cemetery, under the direction of Morticians H. M. Picking & Sons.
Evor Powell retired from active work with the utilities concern four years ago. He entered the employ of the company in 1893 when it was known as the Johnstown Light, Heat & Power Company. At that time, he was in charge of the arc lights in the city. He was employed as a repairman at the time of his retirement.
Evor A. Powell was born in Summit Hill, January 7, 1855, a son of Joseph and Mary Powell. He came to Johnstown in 1890 and had since made his home here.
Active in singing societies in Johnstown, Mr. Powell was a member of the Germania Quartet Club and the old Fortnightly Clum. He also was affiliated with the Vigilant Fire Company and was an active member of First Christian Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary (Reese) Powell, who is 80 years of age and enjoying excellent health, and seven children L. G. Powell of Robesonia, G. R. Powell of 248 Vine Street, Joseph L. Powell of Upper Darby, Pa; Winfield C. Powell and Cora E. Powell, both at home; Mrs. John W. Slater of 436 Napoleon Street and Mrs. Frank E. Little of Elkhart, Ind. He also leaves nine grandchildren.
