Simeon was the son of Ensign Otho Stevens and Abigail Kent.

He married Sarah Hadley and later widow Susanna Shepherd Chamberlain.

Simeon was one of first to settle in Newbury VT. In 1762 he was a 1st LT in 1st Co. of Newbury minutemen and Capt of Co of Col. Bebell's regiment from Apr 1778-Nov 30, 1779.

The name is reportedly spelled STEPHENS on his gravestone.(page 697, "History of Newbury, VT.") But where is it? Most of his 9 children lived in Waterford VT or surrounding area. Note: DMLeForce provided his final resting place as Oxbow Cemetery, Newbury, Orange Co., Vermont.

He and wife are ancestors of President Chester A. Arthur through their daughter Judith.

"In memory of Capt.// Simeon Stephens// died July ye 6, 1788// in his 52d year.// 'Death is a debt to// Natuer [sic] due which// I have paied [sic] &// so must you.'"
