SUE R. ABEL, 68, of Fairmont

Memorial services for Sue Abel, 68, of Fairmont, MN, will be Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Fairmont following the service. Visitation will be Monday, November 3, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service held at 7:00 p.m. at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Sue passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2008, at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. Sue Rae (Cox) Abel was born on April 8, 1940, on the family farm near Elkton, MN, the daughter of Roy and Viola (Streit) Cox. She attended school at the St. John Vianney Parochial School and then attended high school in Fairmont. On May 28, 1957, Sue was united in marriage to Norman Abel at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Together the couple made their home in Welcome, MN, and later Fairmont, MN, where they were blessed with five children, Doug, Terri, Cindy, Charlie, and David. Sue was a very active person and truly treasured the outdoors. Some of her most cherished memories were made traveling with family and friends in her and Norman's motor home and attending the annual family fishing trip. One special trip for Sue was the trip to Germany with Norman and her son, David. The Holiday's also held a special place in Sue's heart and she especially enjoyed watching the excitement on the faces of her children and grandchildren while opening gifts during Christmas. Sue was a very active member in the St. John Vianney Catholic Church until her health prevented her from attending. She will be missed by those that loved her and called her friend. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Norman Abel of Fairmont, MN; five children, Doug Abel and his wife Joan of Fairmont, MN; Terri Abel of Fairmont, MN; Cindy Rogers and husband, Dan of Bemidji, MN; Charlie Abel and wife Dawn of Welcome, MN; and David Abel of Mankato, MN; eight grandchildren, Kelly Meyerdirk and husband, Austin; Lacy Abel, Linda Rogers, Laura Rogers, Wes Rogers, Jake Abel, Tadd Abel, and Matt Abel; three great granchildren, Carter, Riley, and Landen; six siblings, Connie Mundy and husband John of Erie, PA; Jerry Cox and wife Karen of Brandon, SD; Jim Cox of Fairmont, MN; Mary Conrady and husband, Tim of Randall, MN; Jean Maakestad and husband Terry of Fairmont, MN; and Jane Thate and husband, John of Fairmont, MN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter Abel and wife Carolyn of Welcome, MN; Arnold Abel of Welcome, MN; Irvin Abel of Welcome, MN; Evelyn Koons of Welcome, MN; Edwin Abel and wife Marlene of Welcome, MN; Howard Abel and wife Eileen of Welcome, MN; and Joanie Riegel of Elk Grove, IL; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, Sue is preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Charles and Elda Abel; three sisters-in-law, Lois Cox; Rita Abel; and Faye Abel; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Koons; and John Riegel.
