He was born September 24, 1907, on the family farm west of Kelly, the son of Frank and Mary Stegeman Haverkamp. He grew up there and attended St. Bede's School in Kelly. He worked on the family farm raising a variety of stock and running a dairy operation. In the early 1930's Frank worked on a line crew cleaning out right-aways for REA. He also worked for other farmers in the area. Later he worked as a part time carpenter for Ray Droge Construction.
On January 8, 1935, he married Alma B. Niehues at St. Bede's Church in Kelly. They lived and farmed east of Kelly. On June 6, 1963, Alma died in an auto accident at the age of 49. Frank and their son, Francis, had severe injuries and were hospitalized for many months.
Frank was a member of St. Bede's Church, the St. Joseph Society, and served on the parish council with the parish house was built. He had a good sense of humor and never complained of pain or other difficulties. He was interested in current events and kept himself informed.
Survivors are three sons, Roger Haverkamp, Goff; Francis Haverkamp, Seneca; Kenneth Haverkamp, Leavenworth; daughter, Mary Alice Uphaus, Seneca; brother, Alphonse Haverkamp, Seneca; sisters, Josepha Steinlage, Seneca; Rose Bergman, Seneca; Alma Holthaus, Centralia; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Alma, and his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, George Haverkamp; Lawrence Haverkamp; Edwin Haverkamp; Joseph Haverkamp; sisters Anna Boeding; Mary Haug; and Dora Steinlage.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Bede's Church in Kelly. Burial was in the church cemetery.
