SUMNER JOHN W. "JAY," went to be with his heavenly family, Thursday, November 6, 2008. Jay began his career in auto industry, as sales manager with his uncle's dealership, V.V. Cooke Chevrolet. Jay and his brother, Bill Cooke Sumner, then opened their own business, Sumner Brothers Auto Sales, which was in business for 45 years. Jay was a founding member of Hurstbourne Country Club, and a member of Midland Trail Golf Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Quarterback Club, and a Mason. He was a long standing member of Saint Matthews Baptist Church. Jay was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Survivors include his loving wife, the former Lois Brown Sumner; two daughters, Suzanne Honeycutt (Joe) and Cindy MacDonald (Craig); one brother, Bill Cooke Sumner (Olivia); and one sister, Bernice Finney. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rush Sherman (Anne), John Sherman, Sumner MacDonald (Katie), and Taylor MacDonald; and five great grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Saint Matthews Baptist Church, 3515 Grandview Ave., with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, and 10:30 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Matthews Baptist Church or Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance in the name of Taylor MacDonald, 801 Roeder Road, Suite #750 Silver Spring, MD, 20910.
