VETERAN EDUCATOR DIES

The funeral will be held late this afternoon for Emil de Harne, eminent educator of Hawaii, who died at his home at 1245 Wilder Avenue. The services will be held at the Catholic cathedral where Bishop Libert will officiate. Interment will be in the Catholic cemetery, South King Street.
Mr. de Harne was born near Ghent, Belgium, October 15, 1847. He came to the islands in 1882 and went to Kohala where he taught in public and private schools until 1913. He was retired in that year and was also pensioned by the territorial government. Altogether he taught for 36 years in the islands.
He was a nephew of Canon de Harne, inventor of the deaf and dumb alphabet which is now in use.
The deceased was 70 years old. He is survived by a widow and 10 children, all occupying responsible positions in the city.
