Maggie M. Steele was born in Crawford County, Penn., Sept. 10, 1858. She came to this county in 1865, with her parents, David Steele and wife, who settled in Union Prairie Township on what was known as the Loren Eels farm. They later moved to West Ridge, and lived there seven years, and then moved to the home place on the northwest edge of Waukon, where she has since lived. On Thursday morning, December 29, 1921, she passed away, death being due to a goiter. Steele of Lake Andes, S.D.; Mrs. Dave Richardson, Milaca, Minn.; Mrs. Henry Moore, White, S.D. Two sisters, Mrs. John Jones and Mrs. Hannah Clarke, preceded her in death. She had been a member of the Methodist church since 1893. Funeral services were held from the late home of the deceased, on Saturday last, conducted by Rev. Butler, with burial in Oakland Cemetery.
