Morris Eugene "Gene" King, 82, died at 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home after a period of declining health. He was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Jerseyville, the son of the late Frank Thomas and Lillie Mae (Hawkins) King.

He began his employment at Alton Box Board in Godfrey, and continued there through their transformation to Mead Packaging retiring as a supervisor after 40 years of service. He was formerly married to Lela Mae Woolsey, and together the two had two sos, Ronald and Larry King.

Surviving are a son and daughter in law, Larry and Linda King of Jerseyville; a daughter-in-law, LaVonne King of Carrollton; six grandchildren and their spouses, Shawn King of Jerseyville, Jayson and Jenny King of Jerseyville, Jamie (King) Anderson of Jerseyville, Micah and Mandy King of Gillespie, Aaron King of Carrollton, Vonna Rose (King) and Kerry Green of Biloela, Queensland, Australia; 11 great-grandchildren, Savannah King, Tanner and Liberty King, Caitlin, Corey and Chelsea King, Claire and Brooke Anderson, Aurora King, Layla and Lameah Green; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Betty King of Jerseyville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Paul Otto of Alton, Barbara and Gerald Cates of Fieldon; a sister-in-law, Mildred King of Brighton; and his longtime companion, Julie Weaver of Jerseyville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Eugene King of July 11, 2004; a grandson, Kip E. King on July 25, 1994; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and John Chandler, Shirley and Bob Neikirk; a brother, William King; and a brother and sister in infancy, Edward and Virginia King.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31. The Rev. Robert Blaine will officiate.

Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to St. Anthony's Hospice or to the American Diabetes Association.
