Olympic Athlete. Nicknamed "The Mighty Burner", he was a member of the US Track Team which won the gold medal in the 4x400 relay at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. At the same Olympics he also won an individual silver medal in the 400 meters. After retiring from competition, James was the athletic director at Richard Stockton College and was active with the Olympic USA Track and Field movement, holding a variety of positions. A graduate of Villanova University, he is a member of the Varsity Club Hall of Fame, Athletics Department Wall of Fame and was inducted into the National Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2003.
