Born June 6, 1908, in Old Fort, she was the daughter of the late William Riley and Elizabeth Bradley Allison. She was the faithful wife of Thomas L. Moore for 51 years, until his death on March 3, 1988. She was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd Hoke Moore; three sisters, Mamie Pittman (Parmer), Myrtle Burnette (Claude), and Janie McFalls (Ben); six brothers, Clarence Allison, Walter Allison (Selma), Luther Allison (Edith), Henry Allison (Nannie), as well as two infant brothers, George and Clyde Allison; and 25 nieces and nephews.
She is survived by a son, Charles (Chip) Moore (Lorraine); two grandsons, Jeff Moore (Patti), of Hickory, and Jason Moore, of Black Mountain; two great-grandsons, Jacob and Isaac Moore, of Hickory; sister-inlaw, Alma Allison, of Ridgecrest; and 21 nieces and nephews.
She was a very virtuous woman; an old-fashioned loving, sacrificial, hardworking, compassionate, faithful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was a neighbor's neighbor and concerned with everyone's relationship with Jesus.
After seven years of nursing at the State Hospital in Morganton, she went to work at Beacon Manufacturing Company, from which she retired after 38 years. She then practiced private duty nursing at several nursing homes. She was an avid gardener, excellent cook and housekeeper, and a perfectionist in everything she did.
The family is grateful to the staff at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center for the care given to Miss Annie for the past five years, and to all the friends and neighbors for their prayerful support, especially to her faithful friend and helper, Barbara Harris. Appreciation is also extended to the many ministers, singing groups, youth groups, and churches who blessed her through the years.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kirksey Funeral Home in Old Fort.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Milton Hollifield and Chip Moore officiating.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Kenneth Rhinehart officiating.
