Buffalo Commercial Advertiser; September 21, 1868;

" Capt. Reed, the master of the schooner CLOUGH, was drowned when that vessel went ashore at Elyua ( Elyria ?), Ohio. His body up to Saturday last had not been recovered. Mr. B. Lughton, one of the sailors on that vessel, was drowned and his body floated ashore and was recovered. He belongs in Maine."

"The bark CLOUGH of Black River, on Tuesday night last (9/15), went ashore twelve miles east of Cleveland. All hands were lost except Rush Reed, the second mate. The names of the lost are J.S. Reed, Captain; George D. Demmick, first mate; Catharine Sullivan, cook; Chapman; Bleer and Fitzpatrick, sailors. "


Chicago Tribune: Saturday, September 19, 1868;

"BARK "CLOUGH" ASHORE. - The new scow bark CLOUGH of Black River, was driven ashore 12 miles east of Cleveland, and will probably be a total loss, with the loss of all hands, except the second mate, R. Reed. The accident happened on Tuesday night last. The CLOUGH, built at Black River in 1867 at a cost of $16,000. She measured 300 tons burden and rated B 1.
