Married Jane R. DUNKUM in 1855 in Rockingham County, Virginia. His father, John, had moved the family from Rockingham County to a farm he purchased a mile outside of Churchville in Augusta County in June 1835 when Theodore was barely 5 years old. Theodore remained on the Churchville farm until he left to attend the University of Virginia. His father, John, had inherited nearly 400 acres from his own father, Henry Sellers, Sr., in 1843 and had retained control of it. Theodore likely returned to that homestead in Rockingham County upon his graduation from UVA and marriage to Jane.
Theodore and older brother, Jerome Howard Brown Sellers, were the only two of the eight siblings that outlived their father, John.
