Charles Lamb was born December 1827 in Pennsylvania and traveled to Washington, Michigan settling in as a builder. In 1856, he ran and won election for the 15th Sheriff of Macomb County running against Robert Campbell. He was the sheriff for four years. In November 1862 during the civil war he was elected Captain of the Company L. 8 Michigan Calvary troop. On June 3, 1864 he was discharged for disability and sickness. On January 9, 1865 he re-enlisted and became the 1st Lt. Co. B, 30th Infantry and later was commissioned as captain. Among his many notable structures he helped to build the Colonial hotel when he returned home. He passed away on January 11, 1903 at the age of 75 from suspected stomach cancer.
