Daniel was a member of the 11th Bomber Group and the 26th Bombardment Squadron. He was a crew member of a B-17E Flying Fortress (service number 41-9218) and his USAAF serial number was 6977309.

He was shot down by the Japanese during a raid on the island of Tulagi, first reported as missing in action, and declared killed in action Sep 30, 1942.

He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, Citation of Honor, and the Purple Heart.

He is also memorialized at Manilla American Cemetery and Memorial, Tablets of the Missing.
