John and Margaret Whitehurst moved their family to the area in the fall of 1829 from Rockingham County, Virginia. In the spring of 1845 they would move to a farm on present day Lockville Rd. in Bloom Township. The farm would stay in the Whitehurst family for 61 years until the death of son Jacob in July 1906. The original house is no longer standing.
