BELLAIRE — John W. Chapman, 84, a self-employed dairy farmer, died Friday evening at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. He had been an Alden area resident most of his life.
The son of John and Elsie (Breece) Chapman, he was born May 8, 1904, in Ann Arbor, and married July 28, 1929, to Mary (Dovie) Austin, who died in 1961.
Also preceding him in death were a son, James Gee in 1973; a daughter, Roberta Chapman Burnett in 1984; two brothers, Earl Chapman in 1918, Richard Chapman in 1986: and a sister, Edith Richards in 1972.
He is survived by a son-in-law, Charles Burnett of Huntsville, Ala.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Paullin Funeral Home in Mancelona. The Rev. David Cheyne will officiate and burial will be in Helena Township Cemetery in Alden.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 this evening and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the American Cancer Society and the Alden United Methodist Church Building Fund.
