BUFFON--Charles Woodbridge Buffon was born in Ashtabula county, Ohio. February 14, 1823. He was the oldest of a large family of children, only two of whom are now living, Mrs. Eliza Crist, of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Lydia Fulton, of Montevista, Colo. Mr. Buffon studied medicine in Illinois and commenced his practice in that state. He later removed to Iowa and assisted in the laying out of the townsite of Cedar Rapids, where he practiced medicine for 20 years. At the outbreak of the Civil war he went to Cairo, Ill., where he enlisted in the 44th Illinois Infantry and served as hospital steward. He was mustered out of the service at Little Rock, Ark., after Lee's surrender and returned to Iowa, taking up his practice again. From Iowa he moved to Beatrice, Nebr., where he married Mrs. Mary E. Ross, to which marriage, one child, Edmund W. Buffon, was born. In 1876 the family moved to Jackson county, Kas., where, at the village of North Cedar, Dr. Buffon bought the residence and practice of Dr. Coyle. During the last 20 years of his life he had not been a regular practitioner, and since the death of his wife, which occurred in 1901, he has made his home with his son at whose home he died April 2, 1915. His had been a busy and useful life and he retained his vitality and faculties to the last days of his life. His genial and kindly disposition had made him a wide circle of friends. To few it is permitted to live as long and enjoy life as well. A short service was held at the home at 8 o'clock Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Mr. Ebright, after which the body was taken to Dennison, Kas., for interment. E. W. Buffon and family accompanied the remains to Dennison.--Powhattan Bee.
