She was born in Sevier Co., Tennessee.
Nancy was their 5th child, 3rd daughter.
Nancy was the granddaughter of Rev. George
W. Long 1 and Nancy Elizabeth 'Maples' Long,
also Benjamin Atchley and Martha 'Patty'
Chambers Atchley.
Nancy married William Hamilton Thomas,
in Tennesse. William was the brother
to John C. Thomas who was married to
Nancy's oldest sister, Cyntha.
Nancy and William moved to Arkansas around
1856.
They located on Crooked Creek, six
miles out of Harrison. Also her sister,
Cyntha and John, who was William's brother,
and their daughter age abt. 4 and Cyntha's
little girl, Mahala Melvina, age about 14.
Both couples moved together from Tennessee to
Arkansas at that time.
Nancy wrote her parents about the beautiful
country side and encouraged them to make
the move also.
Later, her parents, Maples and Mahala
moved to Arkansas, in 1857, settling on
Crooked Creek,Carroll Co. Ark..
Nancy and William were the parents of
7 children.
They were: (in order)
Sarah Emaline
Johnson C.
Maleny D.
Birdwell
Christiana
Uriah B.
McDonald
Sadly, William was accidentally killed on
September 7, 1868. He was laid to rest
in the Long family cemetery, on her parents
home place.
Later and after William's death, Nancy moved
her family to Missouri for a time,
then moved on to Texas where she lived and died.
Nancy was a member of the Baptist Church.
NEW 2017 UPDATED DOCUMENT
I have found a document on Ancestry now
and it appears Nancy married a man by
the name of Henry Milam. They were married
in Harrison, Boone Co., Arkansas on the
10th of January, 1878. They were living in
Crooked Creek. The 1880 census have the
couple listed and in their household is:
Henry; age 60, Nancy L., age 45,
Christiana, age 18, Uriah B., age 16,
and McDonald, age 13. At this time, I
have no other information on this new
found document. I'll continue to
research this new fact and add more
when possible!
