Dolores "Dee" Thompson, 79, of Anderson, died Nov. 1, 2008, at her residence following a three-month illness.

She was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Coffeen, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Emma Maude White, and had resided in Anderson since 1991.

Dee played high school basketball and was a graduate of Central College in McPherson, Kan. She received her licensed practical nurse certificate in Bloomington, Ill.

On June 2, 1947, she married James R. Thompson.

In 2000, she retired from Warner Press after eight years of employment.

Dee was a member of Chesterfield Community Church of God.

Because of her sports background, she was a fan of the Indiana Pacers, the girls' basketball program at Vanderbilt University and an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts. She received great pleasure in the nurture and care of her family.

Survivors include her husband, James R. Thompson of Anderson; daughter, Karen and husband Mel Rhodes of Anderson; grandson, Jim and wife Christy Rhodes of Anderson; granddaughter, Angie Rhodes of Anderson; grand-dog, "Skipper"; and several nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Ray Patsy) Miller of San Diego, Calif., and Gary Miller of Independence, Mo.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

A Service of Home Going and Celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Chesterfield Community Church of God, 1123 Linden Lane, Chesterfield, officiated by Pastor C.D. Oliver and the Rev. Mel Rhodes. Graveside service and burial will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Ind.
