F.B. Jones of Milton, Outstanding Caswell county Citizen, Dies on April 7th

Mr. Jones Had Been in Declining Health for a Year. The Funeral Held Thursday April 9th at the Home. He was an Unassuming Gentleman of the finest Character and Was Held in the Highest Esteem by all Who Knew Him.

According to the estimates of those who intimately knew Franklin Beauregard Jones, who died at his home in Milton on Tuesday evening, April 7, 1931, at 6:30 o'clock at the age of 71, Caswell has just lost one of the finest characters which this county has ever produced.

Mr. Jones was a modest, unpretentious man of a deeply religious nature who took life very seriously. He was a devoted member of the Baptist church and was the soul of honor in all his business dealings.

Mr. Jones was a very industrious and a very conservative man. He believed in paying as you go, and looked with alarm on the rash and extravagant spending of money whether such spending was done by individual spendthrifts or by the county and state government. He had never been able to reconcile himself to the reckless expenditure of hard earned savings by the multitudes of people about him who apparently exercised no forethought for the future. He had often said to the writer, "I don't see how our country can stand the mad pace."

The home life of Mr. Jones was a fit subject for a poem. He was chivalrous and tenderhearted in the extreme, retaining the spirit of a youthful lover to the last. In one of his last talks with his wife on last Sunday he said, "I am not afraid to die, but I regret so much to leave you by yourself. I wish I could pick you up and take you with me. But since I can't do that, Ella, I am coming back to you if I can. I am coming back if I can!" These immortal words, expressive of such deep affection and absolute devotion, place this extraordinary man among the great lovers of history. The heritage of these words is of more value than the greatest fortune in America.

F.B. Jones was born and reared in Milton and has spent all his life there. He was married 46 years ago to Miss Ella Ray of Rockingham county. Surviving him are his widow and three children - Mrs. M.C. Winstead and Clyde R. Jones of Milton and Mrs. J.T. Bradsher of Denver, Colorado. He also has one living sister - Mrs. Mildred Knox of Statesville.

The funeral is to be conducted from the home Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. N.R. Clayton, assisted by H.E. Lance and Rev. W.C. Jones. Interment will be made at "The Cedars" in Milton.
