Around the age of 19, Daniel Wiseman enlisted on January 6, 1863 into the Union Army at Fort Scott, Kansas, and served in the 6th Reg, Cavalry Co. K, till July 18, 1865, when he mustered out at DeVall's Bluff, Arkansas.
On December 23, 1869, Daniel married Sarah Downs in Newton County, Missouri. No record shown of any children born of this marriage. Sarah Downs Wiseman died before 1871 in Missouri.
On December 21, 1871, Daniel married Mary Jane Bowman in Neosho, Newton County, Missouri. Although, Daniel and Mary Jane Wiseman had no children of their own, Mary Jane brought to the marriage a daughter, Maggie. During 1879, Daniel became guardian of his three nieces and a nephew due to the death of the children's parents; the father being a half brother to Daniel Wiseman.
Daniel Wiseman died November 7, 1881 in Mantangas, Chautauqua County, Kansas, and is buried next to his wife, Mary Jane (Bowman) Wiseman, in Otter Creek Cemetery, Niotaze, Chautauqua, Kansas on Dye Farm property where cemetery is located up on a hill. Road to the cemetery is off highway Rd 30 north before you get into Niotaze.
(Stop at house, entrance to property on your left off county road 30 and ask permission to enter gate that takes you thru pasture and up to cemetery. Close gate behind you re cattle.)
