H. Elaine Walker, 81, Dighton died Tuesday December 16, 2003 at Lane County Hospital in Dighton.

She was born July 27, 1922 in Lane County to Ira and Lyda (Mallory) Whiting. She attended a one-room school and graduated from Dighton High School and later Fort Hays Teacher's College to earn her degree. She taught in several school, then worked in the Kansas City area in an airplaine factory during World War 11. She also worked for the United States Weather Bureau in Wichita.

On July 27, 1947 she married Jay C. Walker Jr. in the Army and after her marriage she raised her family and was active in her church, the United Methodist Church of Dighton.

She was also a member of Post 241 of the Order of the Easster Star, a past President of the Dighton Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the Lane County Hospital Board and 4-H.

She is survived by her husband of the home, two daughters, Janet Robertson, Dighton, and Joyce Hineman of Hays; two brothers, Clark Whiting of Newton, Kansas and Delmar Whiting of Dighton; a sister Donna Dutoit of Dighton; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Dighton with the Rev. David Randall officiating.

Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church in care of Boomhower Funeral Home 145 North Wichita, Dighton, Kansas 67839.
