MIDLAND, Texas — Mary Dimple Cox
Currie, 100, went home to her Lord on
Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, after a long and happy
life. Mary Dimple was born Oct. 28, 1902, in
Tulia, Texas, to Marietta and Samuel Cox. She
grew up in Glasscock County along with four
brothers and three sisters. After graduating
from Garden City High School she went on to
Texas Women's University. Mary Dimple
returned to Garden City to marry Stephen
Currie on Sept. 16, 1923. They made a home
together on their ranch in Garden City until his
death in 1970. She was an active member of the
Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Garden
City until she moved to Midland in 1971 and
joined the First Presbyterian Church. Mary
Dimple enjoyed playing the piano, birds, her
pets and working in her yard. She was a loving
and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt,
grandmother and friend, but most of all she
was a true and devoted Christian. She was
involved with Meals on Wheels, Presbyterian
Women and the Cumberland Presbyterian
Children's Home in Denton, Texas. She was
preceded in death by her husband of 47 years,
Stephen Calverly Currie; brothers, Lee Cox,
Phin Cox, John Cox and Jim Will Cox; three
sisters, Kitty Lemmons, Henrietta Doll Long
and Mae Ratliff; and several loving nieces and
nephews. Survivors include one son, James
Richard Currie and his wife, Jimmie; two
granddaughters, Cynthia Currie Howard and
Darla Currie Taylor; five great-grandsons,
Stephen Howard, Christopher Howard, Richard
Howard, James Taylor and William Taylor; a
host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and also
her very special caring and loving friends, Alicia
and Mike Ochotorena. Graveside service has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5,
2003, in Garden City Cemetery with Scott
Shepard officiating. Honorary pallbearers will
be Derwood Ratliff, Lester Ratliff, Alvis Rae
Cox, Don Cox, Fern Cox, Ben Cox, Richard
Johnson, Jerry Currie and John Currie. In lieu
of flowers, memorials may be directed to the
Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home,
Box Drawer G, Denton, TX 76202-9956 or the
charity of one's choice
